Responsibilities
Gathers information concerning the capabilities of product line products; investigates the technical capabilities of those products and competing equipment and/or solutions; stays abreast of developments in hardware and software specifically related to AWS Cloud Hosting solutions. Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and ensures requirements comply through formal verification methods. Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall network and system development, to include but not limited to capacity planning, environment monitoring, upgrade activities, and OS patching requirements.
Works closely with enterprise IT, Delivery, and other functional area partners to ensure adequate security solutions are engineered and deployed in cloud environments and together with other platforms to mitigate identified risks sufficiently, and to meet business objectives and regulatory requirements. Serves as a cloud security and engineering consultant to help project teams comply with enterprise and IT security policies, industry regulations, and best practices. Implements new cloud security technologies, architectures, and security products that will support security requirements for the enterprise and its customers, business partners and vendors. Evaluates secure solutions, based on approved security engineering standard.
Deploy, maintain, and support systems in an AWS Cloud Hosted Environment:
- Document design decisions and ensure DoD compliance and STIGs.
- Assist in the management of security operations in cloud environments
- Be responsible for configuring and automating our applications in our AWS instance
- Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts.
- Implements and configures new cloud virtual hardware, systems, and software.
- Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures.
- Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning.
- Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.
- Support the customer with management of its IaaS. Install, update and monitor tenants,
- Interact with different levels of external and internal customers.
- Generate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports based upon management requests.
- Plays an active role in day-to-day management of the AWS Cloud Environments so as to be knowledgeable and aware of all issues, concerns, and requirements.
- Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.
- Establishes operational objectives and work plans.
- Defines system implementation approach and operational concept.
- Interfaces with the user(s) and all other stakeholders to determine their needs.
- Designs and develops solutions to applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.
- Monitors and reports operating efficiency, performance, and reliability of applications.
- Assists, as required, in detailed end-to-end trouble shooting of application issues from end-user desktop to middleware and application software to backend infrastructure and network.
- Provides technical leadership in development and implementation of cloud, virtualization, and API (Application Protocol Interfaces) technologies.
- Reviews modifications to applications and acts as approval point before applications are placed into production.
- Interfaces with multiple Agile teams to understand their API strategy, including new APIs (Application Protocol Interfaces) being authored, and backlog of enhancements to existing APIs.
- Configuration of Instance, Load Balancer, S3 and EBS Storage
- Cloudformation, System Manager and Python scripting deployments
- Monitoring with Cloudwatch and querying
- Identifying VPCs/availability Zones and Trusted Advisor
- Configure user accounts/SSH
- Interfacing with S3, copying files across availability zones, etc.
- Oversee governance and mitigate risk.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a Business, Engineering, or Technical discipline plus 5 years of experience; 8-10 additional years of experience can be substituted for the degree requirement
Required Skills and Experience
- AWS certifications, at a minimum: SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect.
- Linux Certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator. Multiple years of Linux experience will substitute for certification.
- Multiple years of experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure, network, and multiplatform environments.
- Experience with cloud networks and systems security.
- Knowledge of optimization, automation, integration and productivity tools.
- Knowledge of relevant libraries and security protocols.
- Excellent knowledge of AWS tools.
- Creating and configuring virtualized systems in the AWS environment.
- Performing infrastructure upgrades and updates to maximize system efficiency while minimizing downtime.
- Deploying applications in AWS using EC2 instances and Elastic.
- Building tools for deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of system resources in an AWS environment.
- Experience with Cloudwatch alerting
- Extensive familiarity with SFTP and Apache
- Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Snow
- Familiarity with other technologies such as Venafi, Centrify, Science Logic, Dynatrace
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with the VA OIT Organization, preferred
- Experience with any Federal government agency is also acceptable if no VA specific experience; if no government experience than years of experience in AWS and RedHat can be sufficient, but will be determined on a case by case basis
- Familiarity with HealthShare and HealthConnect form ISC is preferred.
- Familiarity with IRIS.
- Security + w/ce certification
- Designing and implementing secure network solutions that meet business requirements.
- Creating blueprints using Cloud Formation templates for common workloads.
- Maintaining, testing and implementing disaster recovery procedures.
- Implementing automation using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl) to manage AWS services.
- Developing software components in Java/Python .NET that interact with AWS cloud services by leveraging the AWS APIs.
- Have containerization, (Kubernetes, Docker) troubleshooting and support tasks.
- Linux servers troubleshooting and support tasks.
- The ability to conduct testing at different levels and stages.
- Knowledge of scripting languages.
- Experience with DevOps.
- Experience with infrastructure (networking, hosting, SAN, monitoring, etc.) to host tenant systems (Windows, Red Hat, etc.)
- Other preferred certifications: Red Hat Certified Engineer, (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), Cisco CCNP, Microsoft MTA, MCSA, MCSE
- Knowledge of VAEC (VA Enterprise Cloud), AWS GovCloud, Multi-factor Authentication, and Single Sign On.
- Experience deploying and administering Windows Server operating systems
- Experience with PowerShell scripting.
- Knowledge of Application Servers like JBoss, WebLogic, IIS, Tomcat etc.
- Experience working with, and enhancing, Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Development (CD) environments.

Compensation Range (In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act for remote or positions located in CO)
$110,000 to $112,000
