Monitors, controls, and isolates problems in a data communications network. Monitors all network activity. Activates/deactivates network lines according to established schedules. Performs first- and/or second-level problem determination (first level is help desk). Interfaces with users and/or network vendors.

  • Installs and maintains network equipment, including switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Performs site network proposal walk throughs, creates and proofs network plant proposals for participating sites utilizing software that creates graphical representations of communications networks.
  • Maintains and repairs the network infrastructure like operating systems, routers, and other network related components.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves network problems as needed to ensure maximum availability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Provides on-site end-user training on system operation, maintenance, and limited troubleshooting.

Responsible for general maintenance of computers and computer equipment and for resolving identified technical problems. Installs and tests new software. Ensures anti-virus software is installed, properly configured, regularly updated, and working properly on all PC and server stations. Plans, schedules, and coordinates new operating systems releases, engineering changes, and preventative maintenance changes. Assists in developing specifications and recommends computer-related purchases to management.  Organizes and prioritizes requests for service on an as-needed basis and works with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems.  Coordinates work orders for the installation of new equipment and recycling old equipment. Ensures all necessary software and data is migrated and network connectivity is established.  Troubleshoots and repairs hardware issues, including computers and network printers.  Diagnoses and returns failed hardware, working with vendors as necessary on RMAs and fixes.

Required Qualifications

  • High School with 6 – 9 years (or commensurate experience).
  • Must possess a Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility on day one.
  • Current Security+ CE certification.
  • 3+ years’ experience directly supporting physical and virtual client systems, troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Familiarity with trouble ticketing systems such as ServiceNow and Remedy.
  • Demonstrated familiarity/experience supporting VoIP phones, printers, and other common peripherals.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to access computers and equipment that may be underneath desks/tables.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend short ladders to run network cables up into ceilings.
  • Must be customer service oriented. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting an Air Force Communications Squadron, Intelligence Support Squadron or Operations Center a plus.
  • Experience supporting a DoD entity a plus.
