GovCIO is looking for a Content Designer to join our team in support of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Information Technology. The Content Designer will design slide decks, graphics, newsletters, fact sheets, and assist with content development, by working closely with communications lead, OCTO team leads, and design lead to design and manage communication assets and products. The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating ability to manage both time and scope to fit tasks into quick development iterations.

The day-to-day role will be dynamic, addressing multiple customer priorities. The overall focus will be on refining the presentation of VA briefings, slide decks, SharePoint pages, and other materials. This candidate will manage a collection of standardized templates and work with GovCIO team members who are leading communication efforts/products.

The ideal candidate will have experience at the Department of Veterans Affairs as well as familiarity with content development and graphic design.

  • Employ participatory design, creative brainstorming, and other techniques to collaborate with communications team and OCTO leads to ensure all products meet VA standards and style guide(s)
  • Collaborate across teams to implement layout, design, illustration, photography, typography, color, and other aspects of creative design for multiple projects and platforms
  • Assist with content development and review
  • Design graphics, infographics, story boards, icons and other visual elements as necessary
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends in technology design and usability, and share this information across multiple teams


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • Five years of content design experience
  • Proven content design, and content development experience
  • Knowledge of computer-generated graphics programs, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, XD)
  • Experience delivering products that work across a range of browsers and platforms
  • Understanding of 508 Accessibility standards. Experience delivering and meeting them preferred.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills (ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
  • Experience with mock-up and wireframe tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Sketch
  • Previous editing experience
  • Experience implementing designs for COTS-based solutions
