GovCIO is looking for an intermediate MSSQL Database Administrator for third-shift, full time, remote work (M-F, 11:30 PM EST – 8:00 AM EST) working for Government CIO and the VA’s Network Operations Center (NOC), Remote Access and Solutions Integration (RASI) Team.



  • Install, configure, harden, patch, upgrade, and administer production, user-acceptance, and development MSSQL 2019 and 2022 SQL instances.
  • Perform performance monitoring and tuning, troubleshooting, capacity planning, database backup and recovery, and query optimization/tuning.
  • Configure and maintain SQL Agent jobs, SSIS packages, and policies.
  • Create and modify stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
  • Prepare Power Shell scripts to automate SQL administration tasks.
  • Harden SQL instances per DOD Hardening/DISA STIGS.
  • Willingness to provide 24x7 on-call support one week out of every five weeks.


Required Skills:

  • Experience installing, upgrading, hardening, and configuring SQL 2019/2022 for maximum performance.
  • Experience with MSSQL backup and recovery, troubleshooting, performance monitoring/tuning, and administration.
  • Experience writing and optimizing TSQL.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Motivated, self-starter with a commitment to quality.
  • Experience with Transparent Data Encryption within MSSQL.
  • Experience with the installation, configuration, and administration of MSSQL Reporting Services.
  • Experience creating, deploying, and debugging Integration Services packages.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience with 2-5 years of database administration experience with SQL 2019 and 2022.
  • Clearance Required: Must be able to pass a government Tier 2 Moderate Background Investigation 


  •  Experience with MSSQL Always on Availability Groups.

Posted Pay Range


The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Pay range: $61,850 - $98,950 Annually
