Overview
GovCIO is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Desktop Virtualization Administrator to manage and support the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in support of 616 Operations Center (OC) and 616 Air and Space Communications Squadron (ACOMS) operations. The ideal candidate will have experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining virtual desktop solutions, its supporting infrastructure, as well as ensuring compliance with security guidelines and providing user support.
Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains smooth operation of computer systems (to include operating systems, software and hardware) in networked or stand-alone configurations, maintains system integrity, and upgrades systems and/or servers as required. May create and document new methods supporting network/system operations and implement changes to procedures. Consults with support teams, help desks, customers and other technical staff in the resolution of problems, coordinates and performs operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers, identifies recurring problems and recommends steps to reduce the severity or frequency of problems. May plan for the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies, utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files, manage system data to maintain performance efficiencies and/or study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures.
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement network/system security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Provides regular monitoring and analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems.
- Prepares or ensures that appropriate documentation exists, including operational instructions.
- Writes or modifies basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate administration tasks.
- Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
Client Specific Responsibilities
- Deploys and configures virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments, including Horizon, Citrix, Azure, AWS and similar VDI platforms.
- Create, manage, and maintain desktop pools, user profiles, and configurations to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Implement and manage user access policies, ensuring appropriate permissions and security protocols are in place.
- Ensure compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and Technical Compliance Notification Order (TCNO) requirements.
- Perform regular patch management and updates for all desktop virtualization systems.
- Provide end-user support and training related to the VDI environment and ensure smooth operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to VDI systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of virtual desktop environments, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Collaborate with security and network teams to ensure the security and integrity of the VDI environment.
- Maintain documentation of the VDI environment, including system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.

- High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
Required Skills and Experience
- Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI
- Minimum 9+ years of experience designing, installing, configuring and managing VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, Workspace ONE, ThinApp, App Volumes)
- IAT Level II certification
- Proven experience with VMware, Horizon, Citrix, Azure, or other virtual technology stacks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Windows 10 / 11 and RHEL desktop master image management.
- Strong understanding of VDI deployment, configuration, and management best practices.
- Thorough understanding of Active Directory, PCoIP, BLAST, DNS, NTP, TCP/IP, ICMP, DFS, WSUS, VLANs and Routing.
- Strong background in desktop Application virtualization.
- Experience with patch management and TCNO compliance.
- Familiarity with STIG compliance requirements and the ability to implement security controls.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a virtualized environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide training and support to end users.
- Experience with user access policy management and security protocols.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in the field or in a related area is strongly preferred.
- Experience working within DoD network environments.
- PowerShell, Python, Bash or other scripting languages.
- Backup / restore operations in virtualized environments.
- SAN, network, server administration.
- Elastic stack working knowledge.
- Performance monitoring, tuning utilities and commands.
- Container orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Working knowledge of SQL and database implementations.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Expert level (or MCSE) certifications.
- VCP - VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization certification.
- VCP - VMware Certified Professional - Desktop and Mobility certification.
- Cisco Professional certification - CCNP +.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator - RHCSA.

Posted Pay Range
The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Pay range: $95,000 - $130,000 Annually
