The GovCIO Media & Research events director will lead planning and execution for our in-person and virtual events. Efforts will drive brand awareness, advance the pipeline and educate and inspire attendees across government. Topics are related to federal information technology initiatives and impacts involving matters like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, infrastructure modernization, health IT, the workforce, etc.

Responsibilities

  • This role reports to the president of GovCIO Media & Research and is responsible for event operations, program management and financial management.
  • Project manage a diverse portfolio of in-person and virtual event types of varying scale (forums, virtual panels, executive roundtables, working groups, awards gala, etc.); 24-30 per year.
  • Work with editorial team to develop the content for events, including event agendas, descriptions and speaker invitations. Oversee speaker management, including responses, logistics coordination and prep calls and materials ahead of an event.
  • Work with in-house creative team on event branding, digital assets and promotional items.
  • Work with marketing team to promote event and increase audience acquisition.
  • Work with sales team and account manager to ensure all client deliverables and deadlines are being met for each event.
  • Manage event webpage content and timely updates to event details.
  • Plan and maintain event budgets and work with accounting to ensure vendor invoices are paid.
  • Coordinate with venues, vendors and support teams to help execute event–from planning and facilitation to load in and load out.
  • Closely monitor RSVPs and adjust headcount, floorplan, etc. accordingly.
  • Act as executive producer on event days, including creating staffing plans, load-in and out schedules, serve as point of contact for all vendors, manage the green room and call the show.
  • Interact directly with sales team to gain working knowledge of their needs and clients’ needs in order to create event-based programs.
  • Generate new event ideas and opportunities for the sales staff and advertising clients.
  • Maintain working knowledge of happenings in the industry as well as up-to-date information on event venues, vendors, trends, etc.
  • Gather and track ROI, engagement analytics, and feedback to consistently assess and implement opportunities for improvement. Measure success against corporate strategy and build executive level report.

Qualifications

  • At least 5-10 years of direct experience managing small and medium-sized in-person and virtual events (up to 300 participants).
  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize, multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to confidently brief and build genuine relationships with senior leaders in technology and government.
  • Exudes hospitality and inspires collaboration to deliver a seamless event.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Analytical perspective to compare results and make recommendations to adjust event and campaign elements.
  • Resourceful, self-starter.
  • Creative problem solver in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable using social media personally and/or professionally (ex. Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
  • Familiar with Eventbrite, Trello, Marketo, SurveyMonkey and PollEverywhere (or similar platforms).
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree.
