Responsibilities

  • Provide project management office (PMO) support to VA product manager while leading PMO product team members in their respective duties
  • Lead and mentor PMO team members (direct reports) by coaching and goal setting while provide performance feedback on a regular basis
  • Review and approve timesheet entry and enforce daily time entry compliance under contract
  • Provide feedback and coaching of PMO team members during quarterly and annual performance review sessions and set final performance ranking during the annual performance review.
  • Perform all tasks assigned by VA product manager in support of the team’s product development efforts
  • Coordinate and plan team activities with development contractors in keeping with VA product manager’s overall guidance and direction
  • Strong understanding of IT and data Governance best practices and framework components, including processes, roles, standards, toolkits and metrics
  • Gets product team to a high-performing level by recognizing areas of strength and improvement and employing appropriate coaching and development techniques
  • Balance and meet scope, timeline, risk management, change management and communication requirements as related to software development tasks

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific /technical discipline, plus 15 years’ experience, or
  • Bachelor’s +15 or and additional 10 years’ experience with no degree
  • Experience taking vague requirements and requests and delivering robust products, recommendations, and/or solutions
  • Experience in all areas of the software development life cycle, enterprise-wide network engineering, strategic information planning, business process reengineering, structure and management practices
  • Experience with program control, including development of controls used to manage performance, including cost, schedule, and staff management as wells as the WBS elements to report out status, progress and accomplishments
  • Strong analytical and investigation skills crafting solutions to challenging problems or issues
  • Ability to extrapolate and communicate a client’s main challenges and pain points and the ability to craft strong solutions and make recommendations
  • Experience managing programs delivering systems/tools/solutions in production, while transitioning to better technology solutions
  • Demonstrated and current experience managing programs with complex data processing requirements
  • Must have experience with diverse IT projects both large and small
  • Responsible for on-time completion of all deliverables
  • Must be able to identify and mitigate risks to the project, and escalate program risks, as necessary
  • Must be able to track cost, schedule and performance
  • Must be able to multi-task to serve as both manager and participant in projects

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience within the VA Health portfolio is a plus
  • PM-related certifications such as PMP and ITIL are not required, but good to have
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and supervision
  • Experience working and managing large teams in remote environments

Compensation Range (In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act for remote or positions located in CO)
