Responsibilities

Monitors, controls, and isolates problems in a data communications network. Monitors all network activity. Activates/deactivates network lines according to established schedules. Performs first-and/or second-level problem determination (first level is help desk). Interfaces with users and/or network vendors.

  • Installs and maintains network equipment, including switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Performs site network proposal walk throughs, creates and proofs network plant proposals for participating sites utilizing software that creates graphical representations of communications networks.
  • Maintains and repairs the network infrastructure like operating systems, routers, and other network related components.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves network problems as needed to ensure maximum availability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Provides on-site end-user training on system operation, maintenance, and limited troubleshooting. 

Responsibilities include working in a team environment and utilizing acquired skills to provide first class support in areas to include, but not limited to technology, implementation, training, troubleshooting hardware/software issues to prevent work stoppage or degradation. Must read and follow CISCO whitepapersMaintain and update ticket queues in both Remedy and Service NOW ticketing systems. Work closely with end users to provide timely, high-quality client systems, network, and phone supportMust maintain customers COMSEC account.  Perform inventory of all CCI assets.  Order new Key Material to fulfill new and existing encryption requirements.  Must perform COMSEC destruction utilizing Two Person IntegrityOversee the installation of network infrastructure equipment including switches, routers, and security hardware.  Maintain network infrastructure devices and ensure compliance with DISA STIGs. Coordinate with users and other shops for ticket management and updates.  Install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic and copper network infrastructure. Trace cables through floors and ceilings.  Provide reports and updates on SCOI projects, performance, and requirements. While performing the functions of this job, the employee must have the ability to stand for extended periods, may be occasionally required to climb or crawl.

Qualifications

  • High School with 6 – 9 years (or commensurate experience)
  • Must possess a Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility on day one.
  • Current Security+ CE certification.
  • 3+ years’ experience directly supporting physical and virtual client systems, troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Familiarity with trouble ticketing systems such as ServiceNow and Remedy.
  • Demonstrated familiarity/experience supporting VoIP phones, printers, and other common peripherals.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to access computers, cables and equipment that may be underneath desks, tables and within small, confined spaces.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend short ladders to run network cables up into ceilings and under sub-flooring.
  • Must be customer service oriented. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting an Air Force Communications Squadron, Intelligence Support Squadron or Operations Center a plus.
  • Experience supporting a DoD entity a plus.
