Responsibilities

 

The Network Engineer’s (NE) role involves the design, development, and implementation of network and computer systems. The NE will provide expert technical advice to other stakeholders as requirements are gathered and vetted to begin the engineering process. Once a solution is designed, approved, and implemented, the NE will work with systems engineers and administrators to ensure that systems are updated, patched, and maintained to comply with security best practices. NE must be able to collaborate with other engineers and administrators to resolve incidents related to the network in a timely manner. The NE must maintain detailed documentation of the network’s infrastructure, including configuration items, interconnection diagrams, and more. The NE must keep abreast of new and emerging standards and technologies to provide technical advice regarding improving existing capabilities and integrating new solutions. Other responsibilities include:

  • Deliver high-quality Network Design and Development, Site to Site Virtual Private Network (VPN), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Trusted Internet Connection (TIC), Network Backbone, Internet Service Provider (ISP), Wireless Network, Wide Area Network (WAN), IP Address Management (IPAM), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Out of Band (OOB), and Cloud Network Services in compliance with project SLAs
  • Software and hardware installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance
  • Team with the Network Security Section to achieve security architecture requirements
  • Maintain technical architecture documentation
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Change management
  • Support resources responsible for security implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and vulnerability remediation
  • Contribute to strategic planning and proof of concept efforts
  • Assist in preparation of training materials and user guides
  • Develop and implement benchmarking for network performance

 

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret/ Eligibility
  • High School with 6-9 years of commensurate experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline and have at least one of the Cisco CCIE certifications, both the written and practical.
    • Within each of the Cisco Certifications, the following specializations are needed: Routing and Switching, Service Provider, Data Center, and Wireless
  • Current DOD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification (Sec+CE, SSCP, CND, CCNA Security, etc.)
  • SME in Enterprise-level Wireless Networks
  • Possess current basic network certifications
  • Practical application of current/emergent technologies
  • Detailed skills and experience delivering network services, including all aspects of operations, maintenance, and change management
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise applying data-driven practices and tools to deliver, manage and optimize service level and performance arrangements for customer relationship management, performance management and IT network services domains
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills, and the demonstrated ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Duties may require traveling, being on call periodically
  • Extensive knowledge of encryption devices and network security

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with network tools such as, Cisco ISE, Cisco APIC/ACI Cluster Management, Cisco AnyConnect, Cisco DNA, TACACS, Riverbed, Gigamon, VMWare VSphere, Struxerware, xMatters, NetScout Air Magnet, Cisco Sourcefire, Palo Alto Wildfire, F5 Big IP, RedHat, Radware DDOS, Tenable, Active Directory, and Splunk
  • Experience operating Juniper hardware/ software
  • Experience with and knowledge of the military operational environment and backbone network infrastructure
  • Experience with Agile IT, ITIL, and continuous improvement practices
  • ITIL Certification
