Overview

GovCIO is looking for a Platform Architect to join our Health PMO team. The candidate should have experience with a civil agency, preferably Veterans Affairs. This is a remote working opportunity. This individual is expected to have a proven track record of working remotely with minimal direction.  Office hours are M-F 8am-5pm ET.

Responsibilities

Our team is responsible for supporting biomedical research in the VA utilizing a secure high-performance computing environment.  The prospective candidate(s) will be joining a highly motivated team who sustain Linux and Windows environments with hundreds of machines, both on prem and in the Government Cloud. As VA continues to upload genomic data on to the platform, the massive amounts of large data sets lead to platform scaling issues.  The incoming Architects and Engineers must have an eye towards cloud expansion - more data means more problems with running large experiments with massive data set comparisons.

As such, thought leadership, problem-solving, rapid learning, and carrying the innovative mindset needed to lead our clients through conceptualization, strategic planning, and execution is important. Additionally, flexibility and forward-thinking views are important for success.

  • Analyze, architect and design highly scalable, available, and secure platform solutions 
    (On-premises, Private Cloud, Gov Cloud, Hybrid, & MulL-Cloud environments) for
    genomics workloads
  • Architect, design and build IaaS, PaaS and DaaS (Data) solutions (On-prem and Gov
    cloud)
  • Collaborate with Application, Data and Security Architects to incorporate security,
    data, application, and integration requirements
  • Architect platforms for PB of distributed data requiring complex high-performance
    computing
  • Evaluate platform options and build IaaS and PaaS

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent field with 15+ years experience
  • In-depth knowledge of platform design, CAP theorem, ACID properties, middleware
    design, network design, server and storage design, file/dB/object design in a highly
    scalable, fault-tolerant model is a must.
  • Platform and middleware Architecture experience in on-premises, Gov Cloud (AWS,
    Azure), Hybrid cloud
  • Extensive experience in Cloud IaaS, PaaS, and Cloud services
  • Experience in architecting & designing HPC clusters, GPUs, and pipelines for
    genomics processing with dynamic allocations.
  • Experience in secure and scalable platform and infrastructure architecture for web
    applications, data systems and back-end applications and distributed systems
    including n/w design.
    Experience in arch abstracLon to create universal platform with loosely coupled, API
    integrated scalable systems & services.
  • In-depth experience in building data platforms for handling large volumes of highly
    secure data
  • Knowledge of data anonymization, process isolation techniques and infra for
    distributed data systems
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud infrastructure (VPC, N/W, sub-nets, Cloud network
    connect, VPN, IAM, DB, K8 Clusters, Load Balancing & Autoscaling, Multi-zone, multi-
    region, Cloud PaaS, Pub-Sub, Sys Mgmt., web services, REST API, Sockets, RPC, VPC
    peering).
  • Experience in architecting and building IaaS with OpenStack, Azure Stack or similar
    and PaaS for on-prem environment.
  • Knowledge of IaC (Infrastructure as Code), Terraform


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • MLOPs, DevSecOps experience is a plus.
  • Cloud Practitioner or Cloud Architect or similar certification is a plus.
  • Platform Knowledge for AI workloads including analysis pipelines and neural network
    models for genomics workloads.

Posted Pay Range

 

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Pay range: $160,000 - $170,000 Annually
