Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for Production Engineer to support a modernized case management system for the VA. This position will be will be a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

The Production Engineer is a cross-functional Operations/Engineering team member with involvement at all phases of our application and service release lifecycle that embraces the DevOps method of communication, collaboration, and integration. Production Engineers are responsible for implementation, and ongoing support of the production services, applications and platform components that comprise our backend. In this role you will have the opportunity to leverage your technical skills in systems management, deployment, automation, and incident and troubleshooting to provide best-practices guidance and IT support for an Appian product hosted on VA Enterprise Cloud AWS GovCloud.

  • Support the lower AWS GovCloud environments and Production environment of Appian SaaS platform for efficient configuration and integrations by our Agile Scrum Teams.
  • Support all aspects of Cloud operations on a day-to-day basis and maintaining continuous availability, durability, scale, and up time.
  • Work closely with operations and engineering teams to design and implement scalable and high-performance solutions for Appian BPM product hosted on VA enterprise AWS GovCloud.
  • Work with application teams to promote best practices for cloud enablement.
  • Drive automation of application deployment for production and pre-release lower environments.
  • Define monitoring requirements and implement automated incident resolution solutions.
  • Implement and manage continuous integration, build management and deployment scripts and systems.
  • Provide incident and issue troubleshooting and break-fix support for production services.
  • Quickly and efficiently troubleshoot simple and complex issues to provide outstanding support for internal service level objectives.
  • Identify areas for process and efficiency improvement within Platform Services Operations; recommend solutions and assist in overseeing implementation. Actively facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all necessary operational processes and procedures are carried out with a high level of attention to detail, expediency, and on-time delivery.
  • Define and document standard run books and operating procedures. Create and maintain system information.
  • Monitor various systems capacity and health indicators and trends; provide analytics & forecasts for added or reduced capacity as required.
  • Ensures VA security and architecture policies are implemented so that the system meets governing VAEC, architectural, security, data, and interoperability standards.
  • Helps the platform team in getting Authority to Operate (ATO) and ensures cybersecurity controls as per the Veterans Affairs client are implemented.
  • Assist with tracking and remediation of findings from security scans like DB scan, Nessus scan, penetration test, Fortify scan and MS Threat analysis.
  • Hands on working knowledge of some of AWS core services (EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, and CloudFormation).
  • Proficiency in managing software products using a formal configuration management tool, like GitHub.
  • Assists in troubleshooting application reliability and performance issues.
  • Monitors and reports operating efficiency, performance, and reliability of applications.
  • Performs detailed end-to-end trouble shooting of application issues from end-user desktop to middleware and application software to backend infrastructure and network.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree or 4 years of college from an accredited university in a related field, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Data Processing, etc. with 5+ years (or commensurate experience)
  • Five (5) years' experience working in a software development environment, including three (3) years specialization in managing AWS GovCloud, Cybersecurity and System Administration Production Support of large product implementations
  • 5+ years of experience in production/site-reliability engineering OR 5+ years of server-side software engineering with working knowledge in an AWS environment.
  • 5+ years of experience with Cloud technology, Amazon AWS specifically: AWS (VPC, EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudFormation), Terraform, Salt Stack, Git, Artifactory, Windows OS, and Linux OS.
  • A solid understanding of at least two of: public cloud infrastructure, Linux systems administration, and DevOps tooling.
  • 3+ years of Hands-on experience at Monitoring using tools such as Cloud Watch, Dynatrace.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Devops Engineer/SRE
  • Basic coding/scripting skills to work on automation and technical guardrails.
  • 3+ years of working knowledge of Application Servers like JBoss, Weblogic, IIS, Tomcat etc. as part of the installation.
  • 2+ years of experience working with, and enhancing, Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Development (CD) environments.
  • Experience with an automated configuration management tool, such as GitHub.
  • Experience, but not proficiency, in Python, RDBMS/SQL
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
  • Must have excellent analytical and technical skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.

 

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 2+ years of recent work experience on a software development project in a federal government setting.
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile Framework.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Highly team oriented & practices collaboration as a key to success.
  • Experience in working in mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to work well under pressure within a technically challenging environment.

Posted Pay Range

 

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Pay range: $81,500 - $120,000 Annually
