Responsibilities

The Systems Administrator 1 (Satellite Communications (SATCOM) FSR) maintains smooth operation of Deployable Ku/Ka/X-band Earth Terminals (DKET) and Airbus systems.  This includes hardware and software configurations.  The Systems Administrator coordinates with network and system engineers. Serves as the subject matter expert on SATCOM and ISR systems.  Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of ISR systems.  Maintains technical expertise in all areas of DKET, XKAT, Airbus, and VSAT systems, to include hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as network interconnectivity etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all SATCOM requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.

  • Provides regular monitoring and system analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems
  • Applies patches and upgrades to the systems as needed
  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate system documentation exists, including operational instructions
  • May coordinate third-party maintenance for SATCOM equipment
  • Installs all new hardware, systems, and software for SATCOM systems
  • Monitor SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters and provide technical support to optimize utilization
  • Provide training to users on SATCOM systems
  • Attends weekly video teleconferences
  • Performs troubleshooting analysis of SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters, Fiber Optic/Coax/Ethernet cables that support satellite systems
  • Provides monthly reports of SATCOM issues 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s with 2 – 5 years (or commensurate experience)
  • Clearance Level: Top Secret/SCI.  Please be aware that this position requires a security clearance, or the ability to obtain one. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S citizens. In addition, applicants who accept a conditional offer of employment may be subject to government security investigation(s) and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Possess a valid and current U.S. Passport and Driver’s License

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience operating fixed or deployable satellite systems.
  • 5 years’ experience performing or directly supporting installations, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of electronic systems.
  • 5 years’ experience, in a tactical environment, operating and maintaining antenna controllers, SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters, Fiber Optic/Coax/Ethernet cables, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) modems (satellite modems).
  • 5 years’ experience operating and maintaining commercial and military satellite acquisition procedures and commercial TDMA/DAMA modems.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Prior military experience and/or experience supporting Military Forces in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • CompTIA Security Plus (Sec+)(or higher). 
  • CompTIA Network Plus or (Net+)(or higher).
  • Experience supporting Special Operations
  • Experience supporting coalition forces
  • Experience and demonstrated ability maintaining generators
