Job Overview


GovCIO is seeking a candidate for the position of Strategic Communications Analyst to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Communications Analyst will be responsible for the development of a Portfolio-level Communications Plan, providing the framework for managing and coordinating communications across the portfolio. The candidate will also assist in the development of strategies to obtain, organize, and disseminate information to team members and key stakeholders through clear and effective communication channels.


The ideal candidate is articulate, detail-oriented, has excellent creative writing abilities, strong editorial skills, and strategic content planning experience.  The candidate must be able to quickly develop clear, concise, and compelling print and feature content for internal and external channels that attracts readers and viewers, and engage them using various channels such as web, social, print, and more. 

Qualifications and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain portfolio-level communications processes, tools, and resources, leveraging best practices for communications across the portfolio  
  • Assist in the enhancement of current communications strategies
  • Work collaboratively with high-level executives and colleagues alike to consistently deliver high-quality work
  • Support the delivery of communication campaigns, initiatives, and narratives that drive understanding of the client’s mission and strategic priorities
  • Ensure all communications are in support of portfolio objectives and are consistent across delivery channels and stakeholders
  • Work in partnership with the VA’s IT Strategic Communications team to ensure branding and style guidelines are maintained
  • Support the planning and implementation of short- and long-term strategic communication plans for high-profile stakeholder engagements
  • Leverage communications methods to identify trends throughout the communications lifecycle
  • Possess strong analytical skills required to proactively research information and begin compiling initial responses to ad-hoc data calls
  • Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of communications strategies
  • Conduct a communications gap analysis to determine strengths of current approaches and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ability to quickly develop clear, concise, and compelling content that attracts readers, viewers, and listeners, and engages them within various channels such as web, social, print, and media outlets
  • Familiarity with content marketing strategies and the creation of editorial/content calendars.
  • Strong familiarity with a variety of digital marketing channels/social media including web, social, and email programs, able to repurpose content to optimize distribution.  Knowledge of concepts or trends in social media platforms
  • Ability to gather information and synthesize into presentable deliverables for the client


  • Education Requirements:  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, English, or related technical writing experience
  • Years of Experience Required:  15+
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with graphic design and video production is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal guidance and supervision
  • Demonstrated excellent creative writing abilities and strong editorial skills for various media, including various social media vehicles, under tight deadlines.
  • Content development, management, and amplification across communications channels

Compensation Range (In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act for remote or positions located in CO)

$130,000 - $140,000
