Responsibilities

The Systems Architect’s (SA) role involves the design, development, and implementation of network and computer systems. The SA will provide expert technical advice to other stakeholders as requirements are gathered and vetted to begin the engineering process. Once a solution is designed, approved, and implemented, the SA will work with engineers and administrators to ensure that systems are updated, patched, and maintained to comply with security best practices. SAs must be able to collaborate with other engineers and administrators to resolve incidents related to the system in a timely manner. The SA must maintain detailed documentation of the system’s infrastructure, including configuration items, device inventory, interconnection diagrams, and more. The SA must keep abreast of new and emerging standards and technologies to provide technical advice regarding improving existing capabilities and integrating new solutions. Other responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
  • Perform disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Protect data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
  • Replace faulty hardware components when required.
  • Maintain, configure, and monitor security applications.
  • Monitor and improve network performance.
  • Confer with users about solving existing system problems.
  • Coordinating network access and use.
  • Designing, configuring, and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software, and other applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate.
  • Ability to work with the customer.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure systems, network routing protocols, network hardware, and application transport protocols.
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network and computing infrastructure devices.
  • Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization.
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.
  • A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment
  • Dependable and flexible when necessary

 

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Eligibility
  • High School with 9+ years of commensurate experience in Engineering, Information Technology, or Computer Science
    • Providing engineering support to a global enterprise
    • Designing and implementing Network and Computing security measures
    • LAN/WAN Design, Configuration, and Management
    • Creating, customizing, deploying, and patching operating system images and other software
    • Creating and maintaining technical diagrams, documentation, and other configuration items
    • Developing automation systems for deploying and configuring network and computer systems.
  • Current DOD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification (Sec+CE, SSCP, CND, CCNA Security, etc.)
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (Powershell, Bash, Python, etc.)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the following technologies:
    • VMware: ESXi, vSpherevCenter
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
    • Ansible Tower
    • Microsoft Windows Server
    • Microsoft Windows Desktop
    • Cisco iOS
  • Familiarity with the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Familiarity with the systems development life cycle and other systems engineering processes
  • Familiarity with Agile development and project management processes.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with DoD deployed communications
  • Experience with DoD NIPR, SIPR, and JWICS Networks
  • Experience working in a DoD Intel/ Operations Center
  • Experience implementing and managing workflows in Service Now
  • DoD 8570.01-M IASAE II (CASP+CE, CISSP, CSSLP) compliance
  • Experience using automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc) in a CI/CD workflow
