Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Technologist Solutions Architect to provide technical leadership in the design and integration of advanced Modeling and Simulation (M&S) environments that support military training, education, and operational planning. This role translates Joint doctrine and operational requirements into scalable system architectures, realistic simulation scenarios, and innovative technical solutions that enhance mission readiness and decision-making. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will be a onsite position.

Responsibilities

Serves as a senior technical advisor responsible for designing, integrating, and validating complex Modeling and Simulation (M&S) environments that support military education, training, and operational planning objectives. This role bridges operational requirements and technical implementation by translating Joint doctrine, military planning concepts, and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) into scalable system architectures, simulation environments, and realistic training scenarios. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with government stakeholders, military subject matter experts, and technical teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance operational readiness and support informed decision-making.

  • Analyze existing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) infrastructures and design scalable system-of-systems architectures that support evolving mission requirements.
  • Identify technical gaps, evaluate emerging technologies and market solutions, and recommend architectural approaches that balance capability, cost, and risk.
  • Translate operational military planning, Joint doctrine, and TTPs into simulation requirements, scenario designs, and technical execution plans.
  • Ensure simulation architectures accurately represent Joint and Combined operational environments and support training objectives.
  • Advise government leadership on the operational realism and doctrinal accuracy of M&S environments.
  • Design and develop tiered training exercises ranging from tactical-level operations to operational-level Joint Air Operations Center (JAOC) activities.
  • Collaborate with technical, operational, and educational stakeholders to align simulation capabilities with desired learning outcomes.
  • Support the development of modernization roadmaps, technical documentation, and architectural standards.
  • Evaluate risks, dependencies, and integration challenges associated with complex simulation ecosystems.
  • Provide technical leadership for the design, integration, and delivery of advanced simulation, wargaming, and training solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's with 12+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Clearance Required: None
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze existing technical infrastructures and develop scalable system-of-systems architectures.
  • Experience identifying technical gaps, assessing solution alternatives, and developing architectural recommendations that support government decision-making.
  • Ability to translate operational military planning, Joint doctrine, and TTPs into simulation requirements and technical solution designs.
  • Experience ensuring doctrinal accuracy and operational realism within Modeling and Simulation environments.
  • Experience designing and executing military training exercises and simulation-based learning activities.
  • Knowledge of systems integration, enterprise architecture, and complex technical environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Graduate of a Service Command and Staff College or equivalent professional military education program.
  • Experience supporting Joint Operations, Joint Planning, or Combined military operations.
  • Recent experience (within the last five years) in game development, serious gaming, military wargaming, or live-virtual-constructive (LVC) training environments.
  • Experience designing exercises, simulations, or wargames that support specific educational, leadership development, or operational training objectives.
  • Familiarity with Joint Air Operations Center (JAOC) processes and air campaign planning.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense training, readiness, or force development programs.
  • Knowledge of advanced Modeling and Simulation technologies, digital engineering, and emerging training capabilities.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in defense, military education, or advanced technology environments.

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Pay range: $160,000 - $185,000 Annually
