Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer to lead the engineering, integration, and sustainment of enterprise‑grade data infrastructure supporting U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Mission Partner environments. This position will be located in Alexandria, VA, and will be a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer, you will guide the full lifecycle of data infrastructure design, modernization, and operations to ensure secure, resilient, and scalable data capabilities across USCG enterprise systems. Specifically, build and sustain cloud data pipelines that onboard 35+ data feeds into the Coast Guard’s modern analytics stack—Confluent (Kafka) and Qlik Replicate—owning feed development/testing, data validation, documentation, and stakeholder coordination to “get data moving” reliably and securely. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead design, implementation, integration, and sustainment of enterprise data infrastructures including data warehouses, data lakes, high‑availability storage, and big‑data environments.
  • Engineer and optimize data pipelines, ingestion frameworks, and system interoperability to support analytics, cloud, IoT, BI, and mission data sharing requirements.
  • Administer, secure, and modernize data platforms aligned to DoD, DHS, and USCG cybersecurity and compliance standards.
  • Provide engineering input to and maintain alignment with the Infrastructure Design and Integration Management Plan (IDIMP).
  • Assess and coordinate facility, rack, cabling, and hardware modifications required for infrastructure deployment.
  • Lead pre‑implementation process improvement efforts to optimize system reliability, scalability, and operational readiness.
  • Provide senior‑level engineering guidance, technical recommendations, and executive‑ready briefings to leadership and mission partners.
  • Implement and test Confluent/Qlik Replicate feed
  • Author connection docs and deliver training to data owners
  • Clear dependencies across network/policy/DBA/change management
  • Attain NIST 80053/TRM/DRM/ISO 9001 standards

Qualifications

High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security).
  • Proven expertise designing and sustaining enterprisescale data infrastructure in hybrid or cloud environments.
  • Experience developing data pipelines, storage architectures, and systemtosystem integration frameworks.
  • Strong skills in SQLbased database management, data modeling, and performance optimization.
  • Experience administering secure data platforms aligned with cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting automation solutions leveraging Power Platform tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead engineering discussions and present to senior leadership.
  • Ability to support complex modernization initiatives in fastpaced, missioncritical operational environments.

Clearance Required: Active Secret clearance

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard or DHS programs highly desirable
  • Familiarity with enterprise data modernization, IT governance, and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Experience with automation, InfrastructureasCode, or lowcode governance models.
  • Strong analytical and continuous improvement mindset.

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Pay range: $122,000 - $154,000 Annually
