GovCIO Sponsors Washington Capitals “Star Spangled Baby Shower”
At the beginning of November, GovCIO sponsored the Washington Capitals, “Star Spangled Baby Shower” for six expectant military mothers from Operation Homefront. Operation Homefront is a national military non-profit whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families. Their Star-Spangled Babies baby shower program makes it easier for our service members and their growing families to provide for their newest members by delivering critical baby supplies.
GovCIO representatives and nearly a dozen Capitals’ wives, including head coach Peter Laviolette’s wife, Kristen, attended the baby shower on November 8th at China Chilcano in Downtown D.C. to celebrate the expectant military moms.
Gifts for the new and expecting moms were generously donated by GovCIO staff.
A Star Spangled Baby Shower
This inaugural event was part of GovCIO’s partnership with the Washington Capitals spanning two seasons. The Capitals are a longtime supporter of military, veteran, and health IT causes.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Washington Capitals and support this event,” says Jim Brabston, GovCIO CEO. “Military families serve as an integral part of our armed forces and we’re honored to provide any assistance we can during such a special time for a family.”
Having worked with Operation Homefront previously, Kristen Laviolette, wife of Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette, was thrilled to bring this program to D.C. and help organize the event.
“To host a military baby shower is something that’s very special to me,” said Laviolette. We’ve done this in the past with previous teams and to be able to shower a bunch of military moms in our community and know that you’re making a difference in their lives is really special.”
“I was expecting something small, a couple of gifts and food nothing too extravagant,” said Karen Grant, who is a Sergeant in the D.C. Army National Guard. “I came in, I saw the decorations and gifts was I was like ‘wow’. It was exciting to know that these people are out here supporting military moms and just the military and Veterans in general.”
