Washington D.C. – The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) program has been awarded a Gold Quill of Excellence award from the International Association of Business Communicators.

VLM is a digital platform that memorializes the more than 4.3 million Veterans laid to rest at VA-managed and VA-funded Veteran cemeteries. Organized under the National Cemetery Administration (NCA), VLM provides each of these Veterans a personalized profile page, including military service data and resting place information. Families, friends, and visitors can upload content — including tributes and mementos — to a Veteran’s memorial page.

GovCIO has served as the prime contractor for VLM since its introduction in 2019. GovCIO is working on the next iteration and enhancements of the VLM – Next Generation program.

“VLM is a total team effort by NCA, VA’s Office of Information and Technology, and our development consultants at GovCIO, Keeper Memorials, and dbITpro,” said James LaPaglia, NCA’s Digital Services Chief.  “What a rewarding job we all have keeping Veteran legacies alive.”

“We are honored to continue this important work of building an interactive platform that honors the lives and memories of America’s Veterans,” said Jim Brabston, GovCIO CEO.

“It has been an emotional journey for the VLM team to create an entirely unique product in digital memorialization for Veterans. We are very grateful to have this opportunity to support this initiative,” said Megha Chokshi, GovCIO SVP.

The VLM platform provides a new and unprecedented service to digitally allow survivors and family members to grieve and memorialize their Veterans. To find your Veterans and contribute to their stories, visit www.va.gov/remember.
