A Look Back at GovCIO’s Summer of 2023
Goodbye Summer. We Barely Knew You.
“Summer” means many different things to many different people. From relaxing beach days to days filled with adventures around the world, there’s no limit to what someone’s summer can bring. As summer 2023 comes to a close and we begin the transition to fall, some of our GovCIO employees shared their favorite memories of the past few months. Here’s a look back at some of their top moments.
Regardless of how you spent your summer, we hope summer 2023 was one for the books.
Daniel Higgins, Director of Business Development
Time abroad certainly can be good for the soul, especially when spent in the great outdoors and with your family. For Daniel Higgins, hiking the Scottish countryside was the perfect way to accomplish all three.
Have you heard of the Land Reform Act of 2003 (i.e. Freedom to Roam)? Thanks to this Act, visitors are free to walk and camp just about anywhere in Scotland (within reason, of course). If you see something beautiful or interesting, just pull over and go exploring!
Edna Williams, Operations Manager
When asked to describe her summer in one word, Edna says these last few months have been just simply “relaxing”.
“My husband and I have a 5th wheel RV and love to travel to different RV resorts with friends and our RV Group, The Texas Sojourners. We’ve done quite a bit of travel this summer and have enjoyed different RV Resorts and we are looking forward to doing a LOT more!
We have traveled to RedBud RV Resort in Hutto, TX; Lost Lagoon RV Resort in El Campo, TX; Grapevine RV Resort in Grapevine TX as well as others. Texas is such a large state, it will most likely be a while before we can cover at least half of the RV Resorts located in the state.”
Nepal Thapa, Financial Planning & Analysis Manager
Some enjoy relaxing by the beach…and others, like Nepal Thapa, enjoy trekking 3,454m to the peak of Jungfraujoch, Switzerland or better known as the “Top of Europe”. Sights from the peak include views of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other side the Aletsch Glacier, lined with 4,000m peaks.
Did you know that the “Top of Europe” is also home to Europe’s highest train station? Neither did we!
Jennifer Jones, Project Manager
Some have to travel miles to their summer destination, and others only have a short walk to paradise. The latter is true for Jennifer Jones, who resides in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.
When asked what she enjoys most about her summers in Ocean Isle, Jennifer teases, “When the tourists leave!”
Eliot Steele, Senior Account Manager
“California is always in my mind.” – David Hockney
For Eliot Steele, California dreamin’ isn’t so – it is a reality! Located near San Diego County Eliot and his family enjoy visiting La Jolla, beach days, tasty bites and soaking up the ever-constant 75-degree weather (especially in the summer).
