Mission Aligned, Impact Driven

More Than a Program. A Legacy.

Of all the missions GovCIO supports, the Veterans Legacy Memorial stands apart — not because of its scale, but because of its meaning. Since 2019, our team has worked hand-in-hand with the VA’s National Cemetery Administration and Office of Information & Technology to build and continuously evolve a platform that does something extraordinary: it ensures Veterans are never forgotten.

What started as an ambitious shared vision has grown into the nation’s largest digital memorial — a living archive where 10 million Veterans have their own page, their own story, and their own place in history. Families separated by distance can visit. Children can know their great-grandparents. Historians can study service across generations.

For our team, this work has never been abstract. Many of the people building VLM are Veterans themselves, or the sons and daughters of those who served. Every feature we ship is a promise kept to someone’s family.

Technology in Service of Something Greater

Every feature GovCIO has built for VLM is grounded in one question: is this worthy of the people we’re honoring?

  • AI-Based Content Moderation: Every community submission is reviewed before posting, keeping the platform respectful and trustworthy at scale.
  • Life Stories & Photo Tributes: Families upload biographies, mementos, and photos that go far beyond a headstone date.
  • Historical Document Integration: Service records, award citations, and archival documents bring each Veteran’s service to life.
  • “Your Story, Your Legacy”: Living Veterans privately document their own experiences. Content that becomes their permanent public memorial when the time comes.
  • Follow & Community Engagement: Users can follow a Veteran and receive notifications when new content is added, keeping communities connected and ensuring memorial pages grow richer over time.

GovCIO is delivering a unified Veteran legacy solution across multiple platforms and touch points.
